Dale Ladouceur
Brimstone and Clover 2003 CD $15.
Dale Ladouceur and The Broke Ensemble's current CD release, "Brimstone and
Clover", reveals Dale's true talents as powerful and distinctive vocalist,
solid and tasteful Stick artist, and adventurous song writer. Her "Ensemble"
is a quartet and includes a guitarist, a drummer/percussionist, and a sax
player, all playing prominent creative roles. The listening experience is
more like being at one of their live performances, one that is very cleanly
recorded. This album has character, taking on a life of its own, even as the
songs, moods and rhythms move through new musical terrain.
Since it's initial release, "Brimstone and Clover" has received extensive
airplay all over Canada along with worldwide distribution. Good news all
around for both Dale and the Stick.
To You 1997 CD $15.
After hearing Dale Ladouceur's deep, powerful, passionate vocals, I'm
ready to believe she is some kind of modern day Joan of Arc leading her
followers across Canadian mountain ranges and canyons. Her music, arranged
and performed on her 10-string Stick, conjures up these immense soundscapes
by way of forceful and original harmonic progressions and inspired melodic
reaches.
"To You" is the CD debut of Dale's vocal Stick trio, "Mavens", with guitar
and drums. The Stick bass and melody parts and arrangements are musically
distinctive and adventurous. It's obvious to me, she loves to sing, a rare
commodity for a vocalist, I'd say, and one that should insure a long and
fulfilling career.
